According to a statement from an industry official, only 0.005% of the country's agricultural land is dedicated to organic farming. Meanwhile, in European countries, this figure reaches 20%.
A Disaster in Agriculture
This situation reflects a lack of adequate attention to sustainable and organic farming in Iran. Organic farming is recognized as an effective solution for improving the quality of agricultural products and preserving the environment. However, given the current statistics, it seems that Iran is unable to compete with other countries in this regard.
Some experts believe that ineffective policies and lack of support for farmers in this area have led to a decreased willingness to engage in organic farming. While in European countries, governments provide facilities and financial incentives to guide farmers towards organic farming, in Iran, we are witnessing a serious lack of such support.
Need for Change in Agricultural Policies
Considering the existing challenges, it is essential for policymakers and relevant authorities to pay special attention to this issue. Increasing the level of organic farming can not only help improve community health but also contribute to the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity. In this regard, it is necessary to provide farmers with the necessary training and financial and technical support.
Ultimately, the question we must ask ourselves is whether Iran can catch up with its competitors in organic farming in the near future or if this trend will continue as it is?
