On Sunday (September 22), a group of Social Security pensioners in the cities of Ahvaz, Shush, and Rasht held their protest gatherings in front of Social Security offices despite the unbearable heat. They loudly demanded immediate attention to their professional and livelihood demands and referred to the problems that have been troubling them for years.
Concerns and Demands of Pensioners
The pensioners present at these gatherings pointed out the "pensions below the poverty line" and stated that this issue has severely impacted their lives. Many of them mentioned the lack of basic facilities and their inability to meet their daily needs. At these gatherings, slogans such as "Don't abandon our pension" and "We are hungry" could be heard.
One pensioner stated that "selling assets" has become a serious problem in recent years, saying: "As pensioners, we have the right to live comfortably in our old age, but unfortunately, the conditions are such that we face more and more problems every day."
Silence of Officials and Empty Promises
The protesters also strongly criticized the silence of officials and their empty promises. They stated that they have repeatedly approached their representatives, but no serious action has been taken to resolve their issues. Meanwhile, many pensioners have worked for years to build this country and now have access to the least rights and benefits.
The protests today were held while it seems that the voices of this hardworking group continue to be ignored in society. These protests should serve as a wake-up call for officials to think about solving the problems of pensioners and to fulfill their promises.
