Tibs is an Ethiopian dish made using beef and aromatic spices, recognized as a popular food in Ethiopian culture. This delicious and spicy dish has a unique flavor thanks to the special combination of spices and fresh ingredients that can satisfy any palate.

Ingredients for Tibs

To prepare tibs for 8 people, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 455 grams of beef fillet, cubed
  • Canola oil, as needed
  • Half a teaspoon of kosher salt, plus more if needed
  • Pepper, as needed
  • 1 tablespoon of berbere, plus more if needed
  • 80 grams of chopped rapini broccoli
  • 2 teaspoons of spiced butter, nitir kibe
  • 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • A 2 cm piece of ginger, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 jalapeños, sliced
  • 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary, leaves separated and chopped
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 100 grams of canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of red vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons of Dijon mustard
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons of fresh coriander, chopped
  • Injera, for serving
  • Fresh ayib cheese, for serving

How to Prepare Tibs

To prepare tibs, first heat canola oil in a large skillet and add the beef. Sauté the meat for a few minutes until it changes color. Then add salt, pepper, and berbere to the meat and mix well.

Next, add the onion, garlic, ginger, and jalapeño to the mixture and sauté all the ingredients for a few more minutes. Then add the broccoli, rosemary, cumin, crushed tomatoes, and red vinegar to the skillet and allow all the ingredients to mix well and the flavors to combine.

Once the tibs are ready, garnish with chopped tomatoes and fresh coriander and serve with injera and fresh ayib cheese. This delicious dish can be served as a delightful and nutritious meal at any time of the day.
