This alarming statistic was released alongside a commitment to protect migratory routes at a recent conference in Kenya.
Recent Extinctions
The migratory bird "slender-billed curlew" was officially declared extinct last year, marking the first global bird extinction in the mainland territories of Eurasia and Africa in recent centuries. Over the past 150 years, seven species of migratory birds have been confirmed or suspected to be extinct. This trend is a serious warning for the biodiversity of our planet.
