Artificial intelligence, as a new technology, is not just a tool for performing tasks faster, but has directly entered the process of economic and social decision-making. This technology allows us to think not only about how to do a task faster but whether we can do the same task with a new and different logic.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Financial and Payment Industry

In the financial and payment industry, the effects of artificial intelligence are clearly visible. In this area, the first level of AI use relates to optimizing existing operations. This includes fraud detection, combating money laundering, identifying discrepancies, and operational controls. At this level, AI does not necessarily create a new business model but helps improve the accuracy, speed, and scale of existing activities.

The real impact of artificial intelligence becomes apparent when we redesign services. At this stage, new questions arise that seek more innovative solutions for service delivery. For example, digital identity verification, account opening, investment, and asset management are examples of these changes.

Concerns About Replacing Humans with Artificial Intelligence

With the entry of artificial intelligence into the decision-making process, concerns arise about replacing humans with machines. In areas where processes are defined and repetitive, AI can go beyond the role of a "helper" and perform a large portion of activities without direct human intervention. However, it should be noted that this technology does not just eliminate certain jobs but also changes the definition of work and the skills required.

The entry of artificial intelligence into the decision-making process also changes the economic value of skills. In this context, the ability to analyze, judge, and synthesize information becomes more important. Therefore, the economic effects of artificial intelligence cannot simply be measured by counting eliminated or created jobs.

Ultimately, for Iran, the issue is not just technology but also localization and economic development. While developing AI infrastructure may seem necessary, it should be noted that this decision must be based on economic calculations. Given the constraints of sanctions and the need for investment in infrastructure, finding solutions that create economic value at a lower cost is essential.

For this reason, the best starting point for AI development in Iran should be based on real economic needs and not merely on building large infrastructures. Similarly, businesses should create value based on actual demand and market needs.
