The fifth ceremony honoring the "Enduring Figures of Cultural Heritage" was held today, Tuesday, September 23, with the presence of Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, along with a number of foreign ambassadors, experts, and veterans in the field of civilization and cultural heritage at the historical-cultural complex of Saadabad.
Definition of Culture and Its Role in Society
Gholamali Haddad Adel, President of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, in this meeting, while appreciating the efforts of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in honoring cultural figures, examined the concept of "culture" and stated: Culture is one of those concepts that has numerous and diverse definitions, as in a publication from five decades ago, 160 different definitions were identified. Nevertheless, I believe that culture plays the same role in the scale of a society as personality does for an individual.

He added: Just as an individual is recognized by their personality traits, a society is defined by its cultural components. In this context, science in society has the same function of awareness that it has for an individual. Here, I must remember the martyr leader of the revolution who was a true "cultural man"; he always emphasized that culture is like air, a vital element that we all need, but due to its continuity, we feel its presence less.
Historical Continuity of Iranian Civilization
The President of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, in another part of his speech, referring to the historical continuity of Iranian civilization, noted: We belong to a nation that is renowned for its culture in the global sphere. The Iranian nation is among the few great nations of the world whose cultural continuum has never experienced interruption or break. The main power of the Iranian nation lies in its deep-rooted culture, and our international credibility and merit depend on preserving these cultural values.
Haddad Adel, in explaining these cultural components, referred to the ingenuity of Iranian ancestors in managing resources and said: If we look at the phenomenon of "Qanat" in Iran, we will find the depth of civilization and the values embedded in Iranian culture, where our ancestors thousands of years ago dug a kilometer-long path from the mountains to the plains with simple tools to bring life to the heart of the desert. This achievement is astonishing and indicative of a historical strategic thought.
In conclusion, he regarded a wide range of heritage elements, from the architecture of bazaars and traditional rituals to Nowruz, Ashura, and the Persian language and literature as the pillars of Iranian culture, emphasizing the necessity of preserving this valuable heritage as a foundation of national power.
