Nadergholi Ebrahimi, head of the Water Committee of the Agricultural, Water, Natural Resources, and Environment Commission of the Parliament, referring to the latest meeting reviewing and summarizing the issue of electricity tariffs for agricultural wells, said: In this meeting, attended by Nikzad, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ali Abadi, the Minister of Energy, and officials from the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, a report was prepared that is set to be reviewed.
Details of the new tariffs
Ebrahimi added: According to the law, electricity consumption within the consumption pattern will be subject to a tariff increase, but this increase is minimal and there is no intention for significant changes in this sector. The representative of the people of Arak, Komijan, and Khondab in the Islamic Consultative Assembly emphasized: The issues of electricity and water are interconnected, and regulating electricity consumption in the agricultural sector is directly related to water resource management.

He continued: Given the conditions of aquifers, the main concern of the legislator and subsequently the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad is to ensure that the negative balance of groundwater tables does not increase as much as possible and that extraction from these tables moves towards balance. One of the important tools for this is the installation of volumetric meters, of which currently about 25% of wells are equipped.
Suspension of high electricity tariff implementation
Ebrahimi also pointed out the latest status of the implementation of new tariffs, stating: With the follow-up of the Parliament, the high electricity tariffs for agriculture and agricultural industries proposed by the Ministry of Energy have currently been suspended, and their implementation has been halted. If these tariffs were to be implemented under the current conditions, they could exert more pressure on the production sector.
The head of the Water Committee of the Parliament emphasized: The implementation of these tariffs is suspended until a new decision is made, and the matter is in a state of suspension. The tariffs are to be determined and applied in such a way that, while adhering to the law and managing water and electricity resources, production is not harmed and the costs of production and the economic viability of agricultural activities do not increase.
Ebrahimi noted: The goal is to set the new tariffs based on consumption patterns, the status of aquifers, and the necessity of supporting production, while also considering the management of water and electricity consumption. The matter will be pursued for decision-making in a joint meeting of the Parliament and the Ministry of Energy, and the results will be announced.
