Results of the 2016 Census
Nourmohammadi referred to the results of the 2016 census and said: The population of Ilam province in that year was 580,158, which is equivalent to 0.73 percent of the country's population. Of this number, 295,199 were men and 284,959 were women.
He added: The population growth rate of the province between 2011 and 2016 was 0.8 percent, which is lower than the population growth rate of the country during the same period. In this period, 22,559 people were added to the population of the province, with the main factors being the low birth rate and high migration rate.
Household Status and Literacy
The head of the provincial management and planning organization pointed out that the number of households in the province in 2016 reached 159,310, emphasizing: This number has increased by more than 17 percent compared to 2011. The increase in the share of one-person and two-person households has been the main cause of this increase.
Nourmohammadi also noted: In 2016, about 69 percent of the province's population lived in urban areas and about 31 percent in rural areas. The share of the urban population increased by three percent compared to 2011, with migration from villages to cities and the conversion of some villages into cities being effective factors in this increase.
According to him, the literacy rate in the province based on the results of the 2016 census reached about 85 percent, showing an increase of about three percent compared to 2011. Ilam County, with a population of 222,823, accounted for 38 percent of the province's population and became the most populous county in the province.
Nourmohammadi concluded by emphasizing the importance of citizen participation in the ninth Population and Housing Census, urging them to actively participate in this national project.
