The Supreme Supervisory Board of the Expediency Discernment Council, in a meeting held on September 15, 2026, chaired by Abbasali Kadkhodai, suspended the bill "Amendments to Certain Articles of the Law on the Execution of Financial Sentences and Some Provisions Regarding Dowry" due to its contradiction with the general policies of the system.
Initial Review and Committee Reports
In this meeting, representatives from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, along with the Minister of Justice and the head of the Legal and Judicial Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, were present. Initially, the members of the board reviewed the bill "Combating International Crimes" and subsequently, reports from the "Scientific, Cultural, and Social" and "Legal and Judicial" committees regarding the proposed amendments to the dowry law were presented.

After thorough reviews, the opinions of the Deputy for Women and Family Affairs of the Presidency and the head of the Judicial and Legal Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly were also heard. The members of the Supreme Supervisory Board exchanged views regarding the contradictions of this bill with the general policies of the system, especially concerning the execution of financial sentences and family rights.
Voting and Results
Ultimately, the members of the Supreme Supervisory Board deemed Article 1 and Notes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of this bill, as well as Article 6, to be contrary to the general policies of the legislative system and the general family policies, and for this reason, the bill was suspended.
Abbasali Kadkhodai, at the beginning of the meeting, referred to the important role of the Iranian nation in supporting the leadership and preserving the borders and security of the country, criticizing the recent action of the International Atomic Energy Agency in passing an illegal resolution against the Iranian nation and condemning it.
He emphasized the continuation of the global arrogance's hostilities and called for greater vigilance against these threats. This meeting demonstrated the determination of the Expediency Discernment Council to uphold the general policies of the system and support family rights.
